Since doors come in standard sizes, you will want to be sure what size you need and how big the entire opening must be to accommodate a wheelchair. You may never need to be in one, but if you do need one at a later date, you will be ready and would not have to find another place to live or somewhere else to stay while changes and accommodations are made.
You will need to consider a floor that is not slick, along with mats and rugs that can help protect you. Certain types of tile and other floor coverings are slippery and should be avoided. Marble, for example, can become very slick with just a little bit of water. But there are tiles available that have a rougher surface.
