Hip Hip Horray!

by Hannah Holt »

Today I learned I made the finals for the Barbara Karlin grant. It’s the picture book WIP grant awarded annually by the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).

Hip hip hooray! I made the top 14 and earned a letter of merit for my rhyming picture book text, Moon Cake.

Here are the other winners. Congratulations everyone!

Six Months

Summer is flying by. The school year is just around the corner. And my babies are getting big:

Life with four young children is becoming more manageable. Soooo… I’m excited to announce a new series starting in September.

Every Tuesday, I’ll post a hands-on activity for children ages 2-6. Every other week will be an edible project, and the weeks in between we will explore the other senses. Should be a lot of fun.

In the mean time, have a great end of summer!

A Quiet Year

I am weeks, perhaps days, away from welcoming twin infants into my family. As such my goals for 2011 are different from years past.

They are:

1) Do less.

2) Pray more.

3) Live in the moment.

Part of doing less includes scaling back my public writing. I’ll still update this blog from time to time, but it will be less frequently. I’ll be back in the full swing of things again in 2012.

In the meantime, I hope your new year brings you success and happiness!

First Reader Love

I am beyond lucky that one of my first readers is the amazingly talented Mrs. Momsicle. Mrs. Momsicle is a former teacher, recently resigned Sesame Street curriculum editor, and mother of the rambunctious K-Pants. Her blog always cracks me up.

So when she asked if I would write a guest post over at momsicle.com, I jumped at the opportunity.

My topic of the day is “Happiness or Perfection: Choose One.” You can read the full article here.
